The air quality at Merz GmbH is top!

Albstadt-Ebingen, Germany

When planning production halls, attention is paid to the use of energy-efficient machine tools. Often, the extract air resulting from the process is forgotten. Not so at Andreas Merz GmbH in Albstadt-Ebingen.

  • Production Hall
  • New Building
  • Indoor Climate System

The aim of the customer is to optimise energy consumption in the company

The Merz company from Albstadt-Ebingen is a modern supplier and subcontractor for mechanical components. Its customers include medium-sized and large industrial companies from the region. The product portfolio ranges from the manufacture of medical instruments to the in-house development of a bone marrow filter. The company has built up a further mainstay in the field of LED technology. Since the turn of the millennium, the company has also been engaged in the development of its own LED street lights. Only the most modern technology is to be used in the production plant.

Comfortable solution from Hoval: Fresh air intake / heating / cooling

Hoval's concept includes the extraction of stale air from 13 milling and turning machines as well as the conditioning of the hall with fresh air. A further requirement was that the production hall should also be cooled with this system in summer. The Hoval ProcessVent offers the optimum solution for this. The unit works in conjunction with an exhaust air cleaning system from Keller Lufttechnik as a matched unit. The extract air from the machine tools is removed via the extract air purification plant. This humid, warm air is conducted outside as exhaust air after being purified via the oil-tight cross-flow plate heat exchanger; the heat energy in this exhaust air is then transferred to the supply air. Odours, vapours and particles from the extract air therefore do not contaminate the supply air.

The employees are more than satisfied

The installation of the new plant was simple, reports the owner Andreas Merz:

The location on a platform is ideal, so the space below the equipment can be used as a storage area.

Ideal component tuning

The ProcessVent was equipped with heating/cooling coils for reheating or cooling the supply air. The heating and cooling medium is generated centrally by heat pumps and controlled and monitored by a modern building control system. The optimum coordination of the two components (ProcessVent and extract air cleaning) balances the air balance in the hall with pleasant working conditions and high energy efficiency. The results are happy workers, cost savings and an active contribution to environmental protection – all through the use of a single complete system.
